Working together to make health workplaces healthier

Take Action

Implement Leading Practices

A growing number of Champions across the healthcare system are committed to improving the health of their work environments in order to ensure sustainable, safe, high quality care for Canadians. Many healthcare organizations have begun to integrate quality of worklife goals into their strategic planning. Yet, for individual settings, it can be difficult to identify which actions to include in the design of a comprehensive approach to workplace health as well as to determine what initiatives will provide the highest impact.

To support the work of organizations and systems leaders, the QWQHC has identified some evidence-informed actions that organizations can implement, based on their needs and objectives. This list of leading practices is not all-inclusive and is meant to assist organizations in mapping out their own path to improving the health of their setting. Many of the leading practice activities listed for organizations do not require extra funding; they simply involve doing things differently. The activities that do require upfront resources, such as providing training, are practices that can bring a return on investment by reducing costs in areas such as recruitment, sick leave and overtime.
